Habitat St. Johns held its March 2026 Women Build event. Check it out
Habitat for Humanity of St. Johns County held its most recent Women Build event on March 6-7, 2026.
St. Augustine’s St. Johns Housing Partnership received $550,000 from the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida as part of a $1.9 million investment in low-cost loans to help create and preserve affordable housing in Northeast Florida.
The loan to the St. Johns Housing Partnership will help preserve and rehabilitate 16 single-family rental properties serving low-income families in St. Johns County.
The foundation’s Local Capital Pool supplied the money, adding to its already $7 million price tag to support affordable housing and small business growth since 2022.
According to a news release, the low-cost loans provide below-market rate financing to nonprofits, “allowing for a social return as well as a return of capital, which allows future nonprofits to benefit from the same recycled funds.”
The investments will support affordable housing in St. Johns County through distinct and equally important strategies: the creation of new housing and the preservation of existing affordable homes.
“Affordable housing is essential for strong neighborhoods in Northeast Florida, and both home ownership and affordable rental properties play an important role,” said James Coggin, senior director of grantmaking and impact investing. “We’re grateful to our nonprofit partners, whose hard work is creating opportunities to invest.”
Founded in 1996, the SJHP helps residents with low and moderate incomes, including the elderly, disabled and veterans, find safe, clean and affordable homes in Northeast Florida. Working with public and private investors, SJHP rebuilds neglected homes and revitalizes disadvantaged neighborhoods while supporting programs that enhance community economic and social development.
